monday's musing

"A problem is a chance for you to do your best." -Duke Ellington Oh yeah! Trying to internalize this. :)

blocked

My admission for today: shawl number four in my Home is Where the Heart Is eBook subscription was all through test knitting before the sample I knit was blocked. This is because I didn't feel like weaving in the ends. (Ask Jeanne about weaving in ends; she'll give you a few choice words, I'm sure!)

But now it's blocked. And I love it. It's really rather giant, and it's made of Solemate from Lorna's Laces, which contains Outlast. (Kits here!) I think it looks kind of like an art installation in this picture. :)

I'm busy creating a diagram you can print and color in to choose your colors. All the photos are taken, and I can't wait to release it!!!

Back to work with me....

monday's musing

"All that we send into the lives of others comes back into our own." - Edwin Markham

Not that it has anything to do with the above quote, but my kitty is missing. We're all hoping hoping hoping that she isn't coyote food, even though she's a mohair shawl-eating kitty.

Keep fingers crossed for her, please?

Have a great week!

monday's musing, late edition

"Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thank you, everyone, for your wonderfully kind responses to last week's musing. And in that spirit:

"Almost everything you do will seem insignificant, but it is important that you do it." - Mahatma Gandhi

Sometimes I forget that.

Still reeling here from the events in Boston yesterday. I was hoping it was a dream.

Peace to you all, and hug your families.

a state of undress

I always feel that taking pictures of my unblocked items is akin to photographing a lady in a state of undress, in her robe and bath slippers, and before she has applied her "face." (Forgive me: I have been listening to Audible's production of The Importance of Being Earnest and I do go on).

In this case, though, I know how you've been waiting, and since my wonderful test knitters are working on the edging right now, I will give you a peek. The edge isn't actually ruffly as it appears to be; blocking will work its magic. My favorite part: the edging is applied asymmetrically. I can't wait to wear it! (eta: kits at Jimmy Beans!!!)

I was inspired by the amazing dusk sky in my little corner of the world. But enough of that for now. There is more to come later! I have a hat pattern to complete and some (little white) boxes to pack.

Cheerio!

monday's musing

"To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there." - Kofi Annan

Where am I going and why? I ask myself that so many times. And sometimes I feel that I have wasted my life; I should have gone into AIDS research or done something to save the environment. I know that I haven't saved the world, but I also know that I try to make my little corner of it a better place. And I know that there are scientists who knit my patterns. And I hope - I hope so much! - that one of my patterns might have brought some joy, or made the world a little better for someone out there who is doing everything they can to help. Is it too much to hope? We are all interconnected, after all.

Have a wonderful week!
