Musings
I sit here in front of the fire, my latest knit finished, blocked, sewn and edges woven in. 2014 was a tough year for me, and I had thought of grand plans for 2015 resolutions. But it's difficult - with a heavy cold and a house full of people recovering from flu - to care at the moment. And that's when the obvious hit me. Striving for perfection is, in itself, a frustrating proposition. In the real world - that place with colds, flu, kids who don't do what they ought, last minute things that come up, houses that get dirty, and laundry that needs cleaning, dogs that break their legs or run away - perfection is not an option. So I decided to do something different, and not to care that the first day of the year will likely be spent between the bed and the stove, and without the possibility of accomplishing great and noble deeds.
In 2015, I resolve to learn something new every day. It doesn't have to be a big thing, just a new thing. I resolve to remind myself every day of at least one thing that I am thankful for. I resolve to do at least one solely frivolous thing every day; no one can thrive by only working. I resolve to take chances. I resolve to do my best, and when I don't do very well, learn from it and do better the next time.
Most importantly, if I fall short, I resolve to get up the next morning and start all over again.
Happy New Year everyone!
