...and green
7 Small Shawls: T - 16 days and counting down.
Introducing the 5th shawl for the 7 Small Shawls ebook.
I do love green.
Particularly when it's dyed by Kristine. (Did you know the yarn I used - including the exact colors I used: The French Monk's Finest and Magic Bean - is on sale?)
I wish you could see these amazing colors in person!
I'm absolutely thrilled with the way it turned out. And I loved every minute of knitting it - very relaxing.
You know what this means, right?
It's time to divulge her name so we won't need to call her "Madame X!" Leave a comment with your guess - there are only three possible Pleiades sisters left (Alcyone, Taygete and Asterope) - by midnight PST, Friday December 17th and I will choose at random a winner for the lovely nickel swirl shawl pin (from my site) pictured below!
So...start commenting already! ;)

Ohhh Taygete would be a lovely name.
Beautiful and ethereal.... Alcyone
I'm thinking Alcyone, my own dignified self.
Taygete!
It seems doe-like in it's natural greens and...I don't know, vaguely forest-y?
Beautiful no matter what the name!
Beautiful! I'm guessing Asterope.
My guess is Taygete - the mountain nymph. Those gorgeous shades of green, and the leafy border, say spring to me...
Virgil, Georgics 4. 232 ff (trans. Fairclough) (Roman bucolic C1st B.C.) :
"So soon as Taygete the Pleiad has shown her comely face to the earth [i.e. in spring], and spurned with scornful foot the streams of Oceanus, and when that same star, fleeing before the sign of the water Fish, sinks sadly from heaven into the wintry waves [i.e. in late autumn]."
I love those colors!!! I think Taygete would be a great name.
Great job!
Wonderful and I think of it as "Taygete".
Taygete sounds right to me
Oh yay - another beautiful shawl pattern to add to the book! I just finished a Merope and enjoyed it immensely. I'm guessing Taygete.
Ooo, ooo, me! me! I have both those colors in that yarn in my stash right now.
I guess Alcyone since she married Ceyx, son of Eosphorus, the Morning Star and they were very happy together, just like those two yarns (am I pushing it here? :-))
I think it's Asterope. I like it the best of the remaining names & I love green, so why not?
It's very beautiful and lovely yarn.
I go for Taygete.
To me, it is Taygete. What a beautiful shawl, I love the subtle colour variations.
I have been coveting one of those shawl pins!
I think this is my favorite shawl so far. I'm thinking Alcyone would be a fitting name.
Taygete? How do WE know that the last one gets a proper name?
Taygete, the beautiful mountain nymph. The green tones remind me of ferns or moss in a mountain woods.
My guess is Taygete. I'm late to the party with this 7 Shawls concept but I love it! And the Pleiades are my favorite constellation, what kismit!
Taygete, no doubt. She is like a woodland nymph. :)
I see Taygete, most definitely. Can't wait to find out what you see ---
Regardless of whether I win a pin, I'll be knitting this shawl. Beautiful!
I love this shawl, and I can't wait for the pattern. I'll look for appropriate yarn in the meantime.
My guess is Taygete.
Gorgeous! Taygete!
Alcyone is my guess. Not real sure about these but I looked them up and this one seems to fit Alcyone
I love the shawl. As usual it is awesome
Alcyone, no, Taygete, no, Asterope...
Does that mean I get one entry no matter what you choose (hehehe)
Asterope, I just love the name.
cheers,
gemma
I like Asterope
She will be Alcyone!
Another beautiful, beautiful design. congrats!
Aterope. Really lovely and green is great.
Totally looks like a Taygete.
Romi, this is GORGEOUS! I love the combination of greens. I'll say Alcyone, the name just fits so well.
For me, she is the lovely Alcyone, who threw herself into the sea.
Alcyone - not even a contest! The story of the two lovers and the sea matches perfectly with the colour combo of the shawl!
I think it'll be Alcyone.
I already voted on your Ravelry group...but I'm always willing to vote again. ;)
Alcyone
She is so pretty in all of her poses! Another winner Romi :-)
My initial thought for a name was Taygete, but then, I changed my mind because of the stripes and Alcyone and Ceyx were happy together, I now refer to her as Alcyone.
At first look it reminded me of the woods so I am going with Taygete. - Michelle
I keep changing my mind but I think it's Taygete. I really hope I win! I lost my beautiful swan pin this year. =(
Ugh, I can't decide! I guess I'll go with Taygete.
Alcyone would be my guess but no matter what the name is, I am ready to begin this beauty!
OOPS! I don't know if my earlier post went through, but in case it didn't, I voted for Alcyone, since the sea played such a dominant role in her story and Romi's colours reminded me of the sea.
My vote is for Asterope...in all her stripey glory!
Alcyone - her story has to do with the sea & Poseidon, the blue & green remind me of the sea.
Wow, it is absolutely gorgeous! I love the colors.
My guess is Taygete.
Alcyone, because she is next inline on the index. Besides which, this shawl is soooo enchanting. Looking forward to knitting her. Pollywog44 on Raverly
I vote for Alcyone, who is so associated with water. Those alternating stripes look wavelike to me, and the overall color of the shawl looks like clear water (in a warm place, which is NOT here!).
Beautiful, Romi!
Taygete! It's the name most associated with green for me.
Alcyone? either way... I love this!
Taygete. it's beautiful, Romi!
Taygete. I see spring. Can't wait to try this pattern.
Another beautiful shawl and I think that the name Asterope is a fitting one.
Send me my Alcyone, so I too can revel in her beauty.
I am such a fan of GREEN in every shade and I am going to have get some of this yarn. I like the name "Taygete" and think it fits- But I love it no matter what you call it. I am so glad to have purchased your e-book. Your patterns will last me - the slow knitter- a very long time.
I just feel like it should be Asterope - no reason why...
Asterope! =)
I've already voted on Rav- but I definitely think Taygete.
Beautiful shawl! Unfortunately, it looks like one of the colours you used isn't in stock over at A Verb For Keeping Warm. (I placed an order there last month- beautiful yarn!)
Silly rabble rousing me (over on Ravelry) I'm stickin' by my vote for Alcyone! So wonderful Romi! Can't wait to get this installment to my 7 small shawls ebook!
Taygete - I do not know why.
I love this shawl, the elegant simplicity of it (and of course the colors)
Asterope. And that's one beautiful shawl.
Taygete is my guess
Taygete?
Asterope!!! Me likey! What a lovely shawl, can't wait for the specifics.
I think it will be Alcyone because of the other Alcyone in Greek mythology who threw herself into the sea at the news that her husband Ceyx drowned, and was transformed into a halcyon (kingfisher). These are kingfisher colors to me.
Ok, farfetched. I give up.
definitely Taygete. Its incredibly beautiful!
Wow, did "Asterope" (my guess) turn out beautifully! I wasn't sure where you were going with the center portion but, again, wow!
Definitely, Alcyone.
I'll say Taygete, because she has more of a story. But all three names are beautiful, and so is the shawl! I love the colors...
taygete ;)
I'm going with Taygete. Am I allowed to make this in something very un-green? ;-)
Well, as we've just entered the Halcyon Days, I'll throw my vote to (H)Alcyone, too. - Sam
I vote for Taygete, it is a gorgeous shawl.
I vote for Taygete! What a lovely shawl!
I like Taygete!
jwallace on rav
Alcyone was my instinctive choice! the romantic story is a bonus :-)
Taygete, definitely. She's a beauty!
Alcyon for the Halcyon days of year's end.
I chose Alcyone. I love the beautiful colours and the edging pattern is Devine.
Ooh, Alcyone definitely! :)
Taygete would be my choice. Love, love, love the edging!
Asterope, definitely Asterope!
Taygete
This is absolutely stunning. My guess Taygete
My guess is Taygete, because she is associated with animals / nature. This shawl reminds me of a grassy meadow bordered by leafy foliage. Lovely!
I think that Taygete best fits this shawl.
Beautiful. Taygete seems to be perfect.
I like the sound of Asterope! And "Green is Good!"
I definately think Alcyone.
2 lovers, 2 colors and such lovely sea shades of green.
Looks like an Alcyone to me :D
I definately think Taygete. It's so gorgeous, I just can't resist green.
I would guess Asterope. The green a direct reference to the green leavs on the aster! Beautiful!
Andrea W
Asterope is my favorite! I think it fits the shawl to a tea!
Oh, Alcyone from whose name comes halycon. The lovely greens and calmness it exudes just breathes the halcyon days of summer to me.
Alcyone seems the right name. I can't wait to get started!
Alcyone is my guess. She is a lovely sea green color and all references to her in mythology refer to the sea.
She is absolutely gorgeous and I can hardly wait to start knitting - I have just the perfect handspun for her.
I'm thinking Taygete. I'm looking forward to testing this one! :-)
I vote Taygete.
I believe she was linked with Artemis, and the hunt, and this one feels sorta woodsie.
My guess is Alcyone. The green reminds me of sea water-hence reminding me of Alcyone.
Alcyone!
Taygete would be a very fitting name.
Plus I must admit green is my all time favorite color..I've been drooling over the colors used for the shawl!
Oooooh I love green, my favorite! Think it's Taygete!:)
So beautiful. I'd guess Taygete, with the greens and golds.
I'm excited - I just got your 7 shawls eBook in a Secret Santa exchange. Hooray!
Alcyone - because I like it best. Love those colors together, too! Gorgeous!
Asterope. (I think).
Taygete. Figuring out the color combinations will be fun.
Alcyone
because of her relation to the winter solstice...it would be timely
Alcyone - the green fits really well to one of the pics I saw on the net of Alcyone. So this is my bet. And the shawl is absolutely wonderful no matter what it's called :)
Beautiful!!! My guess is Alcyone...
My guess is Alcyone.
Alcyone threw herself into the sea to die after her beloved, Ceyx was lost at sea. In compassion, the gods turned them into halcyon birds. The term halcyon days refers to the 7 days encompassing the shortest day of the year which are the most tranquil and refers to the period when Alcyone, as a bird, came to nest and lay eggs. The tranquility of the shawl reflects beautifully those 7 tranquil days of nesting.
Taygete :)
Alcyone. That's my guess. The shawl, and the pin, are both gorgeous. Nicely done!
I would pick Alcyone :)
Taygete seems just right to me. Green, for the nymph of the woods, running along with the goddess of the hunt.
No matter how it comes out, I've got my yarn picked out in my stash.
Taygete, but I think the color scheme is an influencing factor.
Alcyone...cause the desired result is all in one...all together...
I think Alcyone is a good name--two “sea”-like colors--two lovers lost at sea. It just seems to fit!
Wendy
(Wendeluu on Ravelry)
I think Taygete seems the most appropriate of the three, but she is a beautiful shawl no matter what her name!! Can't wait to get the pattern for this one!!
I vote for Sterope - I think of the river with that one.
I think the name you picked is Asterope. Thanks for holding the contest.
The die is cast... Taygete it must be...beauteous. But yarn aside, I think the pattern is fabulous... so wearable!
I have no idea. I just stopped by to say OMG HOW GORGEOUS!!!
Alcyone! Such gorgeous work, Romi. :)
Lovely! Alycyone because of the blue/green waves of the sea.
Asterope because she was a gardener, and what better way to honor her than with a lovely green shawl?
I like the sound of Alcyone
taygete actually sounds green.
Annihilating all that's made
To a green thought in a green shade.
from the garden by andrew marvell
I'm guessing Alcyone, which seems to go well with those lovely greens.
taygete the green
beautiful leafy shawl
Love it! Alcyone :)
Alcyone is my guess. Can't wait to see the actual pattern!
simply beautiful. I say Alcyone.
Alcyone. A beautiful name for a beautiful shawl.
Beautiful, and I have to guess Asterope.
I think it is Taygete!
Alcyone!! I think it is Alcyone!
I'm going for Taygete.
I simply love this design... love the stripes and completely love the lace edging.
It's Taygete for me too!
I love the design, I vote Alcyone
I'm going with Asterope. This is the perfect shawl for a sea nymph, all flowing golden hair and blue green tinged by the sea.
Alcyone! It looks very sea-like. So gorgeous!
I think I already voted, but just in case I'm dazed, glazed, and otherwise erroneous, I vote for Alcyone! And when do we get to start knitting it?????
Looks like an Asterope to me. :) I can't wait to knit it!
Alcoyne ;) vibj the yingyang sheepie
Asterope!
I like Taygete.
Yes I think it should be Taygete, don't know why except that when I first saw the names and shaw I was drawn to Taygete. The lace edging on this shawl is so gorgeous and it makes the solid part glow, really so beautiful.
I would wish for it to be Taygete - it is so beautiful
Taygete for me. I hope I don't have to be correct to win..
I'm voting for Taygete too... it just /sounds/ right, if that makes any sense!
Taygete just seems right. Beautiful shawl, well, they all are! Deborah D.
Taygete.
I'm too late for the contest, but my guess is Alcyone.
I guess: Asterope - for this beautiful one! :)
All the names are wonderful, but I really think Alcyone is the one that seems to fit the best (and I know I'm too late for the contest, but as the name hasn't yet been posted, I couldn't resist adding a comment : )
