Report from the Summit - Day 2

My badge is still having a great time! Ba has been watching over it, thankfully, because I think it might get into trouble without her. If you are at Sock Summit, don't forget to go by the Royale Hare booth (916/918) and get your picture taken with my wandering badge! And now...straight from Ba, reporter on location in Portland....

-----------------------------------------

Our little story continues….

So, after a refreshing night of sleep (but still waking up at 6:07 frikin’ o’clock), Romi’s Badge decided to brave the Portland public transportation system and hopped on the Max for this:

Romi's Badge

Voodoo Doughnuts. A very different kind of doughnut shop. But the doughnuts are VERY good.

Romi's Badge

Romi’s badge liked the Voodoo Doughnut (voodoo doll-shaped, chocolate covered, raspberry jam filled, with preztel stick for poking). Ba liked the buttermilk bars…

Having satisfied her sweet tooth, she hopped back onto Max and went to the opening of the Market at Sock Summit. Knit group homies Sheri and Angelita stopped by and said hi!

Romi's Badge

(Both won door prizes. Angelita won the big trip to a Scottish knit camp. Way to go, Girl!!)

Then, Romi’s Badge participated in the Attempt to Break the Guiness World Record for Simultaneous Knitting with Ba.

Romi's Badge

Here are some of the people waiting for the World Record Attempt (WRA) to start.

Romi's Badge

Here is Stephanie (aka the Yarn Harlot) and Tina of Blue Moon Fiber Arts giving us very clear instructions on what we had to do. (There was lots of paperwork, according to Stephanie. And very rigid rules. Only 2 needles. Not 4. No circs. No stopping or tinking. Purling was ok.) (We did the wave before we started. Romi’s Badge liked that…)

There are no pictures of us knitting, because one can’t knit and take pictures at the same time. (see no stopping rule above) Though the media was there, so go google it….

Then it was back to the market. Romi’s Badge found the Tactile booth and Maia, Brooke and little Joaquin (who drooled on Romi’s Badge, but she didn’t mind because Joaquin was so gosh darn cute…)

Romi's Badge

Later in the afternoon, Romi’s Badge found these folks who were knitting the biggest sock in the world

Romi's Badge

But she didn’t want to help. Because it was a Sock….knitted with Chunky Yarn….and NO Lace…… ; p

At the end of the Market, the yarn fumes were still strong and Romi’s Badge was feeling a bit light-headed, so we hopped onto the Max across the river to look for some nourishment. But when Romi’s Badge spotted this

Romi's Badge

she went back to her hotel room and dove under the covers, and refused to come out rest of the evening…..

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Adventures with Romi’s Badge…..

p.s. Ba says sorry for the sometimes crappy photos….

Thanks for the great report - what a terrific time for the badge. And Joaquin is a little charmer, that's for sure!

Welcome to Portland! I plan to go to the Marketplace tomorrow. I wish I had known about the Summit before registration closed. Oh, well.
