I always kind of turned up my nose at another variation on that theme: "Bloom where you're planted." I was always restless and ambitious and thought that was a total cop-out. It wasn't until after I had kids and started to grow some roots that I realized it doesn't mean "stay where you are" but rather "do your best wherever you are."
Yes, absolutely. It always starts with oneself, and with ones family, and from there it goes out into your community and so on. Oh, I like what yarnhog says too. It's so true.
