Rip it, Rip it Good!

Well, I haven't done any recreational knitting lately, but I did do some recreational ripping! Does that count?

I just could no longer stand to look at this horrible mess of uneven stitches:

even though I know a lot of it would block out. I just wasn't enjoying knitting it.

It was going to be this:

Now why, I ask myself, when I am an absolute mo-ho and kidsilk haze addict, would I take a perfectly good KSH pattern and use alpaca?! Yeah. It completely escapes me, too. So I am going to use this instead:

Now that's what I call recreational knitting. :)

The alpaca, which really is beautiful (now that it is completely ripped out!), is going to be recycled into a new stole design. It's gonna be purdy.

It's a beautiful pattern and it will be lovely on you. I like KSH but for whatever reason, I sort of 'save' it and try other stuff instead. Silly, I know.

    Very pretty color.

  5. You made a good decision, the KSH will be perfect for this pattern ! Both colors of blue are gorgeous.

    Both are very pretty.

  7. Ripping out always makes one feel better, I've never regretted it!!

  8. I always think it's the sign of a good knitter if one can make the decision to rip things out when they aren't going as planned....isn't that the beauty of it....we can change our minds and (mostly) reuse the yarn!
Look forward to seeing the new version!

I agree that if you're not enjoying a project, rip away. The new yarn looks absolutely yummy!

Sometimes ripping just feels good. I like that pattern, and I think it definitely would be better in the mohair.

    Mo-ho. hee!

  12. Ripping can be so theraputic. I love the colour of the KSH.

  13. Love the blue. I have 4 balls of KSH in my stash and am still waiting for the perfect project.

  14. Rosemary- Blue must be the color du jour- very pretty shades.

There are worse things in life than being a KSH ho. Much worse!

  15. I figure that the knitting process is supposed to be fun and relaxing for me. If it's not, then I change whatever I need to, to make it so. I'm so envious that you can even touch the KSH. As much as I appreciate the eye candy of it, even looking at it makes me 'crawly'!

  16. Ripping is good for the soul...oh who am I kidding, it is just plain annoying. But the Rowan yarn is too pretty to ignore.

KSH makes me ridiculously happy, too. :-) And that shade of blue is gorgeous.

  18. I am sorry for your ripping. But whatever it does become will be wonderful. It started with a great knitter and some wonderful yarn.

  19. Hey, recreational ripping can be soothing, too....right? ; )

  20. Good for you for coming up with a stellar plan B. I like the new blue for that pattern even better than the first one. And I didn't think that would be possible!

  21. I'm in the frog pond with you. Had to rip out almost a quarter of a sweater, AND pick up over 300 stitches. It's ok, I'm getting over it.

  22. I am a firm believer in visiting the frog pond if I don't like what is coming off my needles. If you're not enjoying it or don't like the results, why continue?

The yarn you're going to use next looks yummy!

  23. Wowza!
    That will be absolutely gorgeous.

  24. I always feel better after I frog a project that's just not working for me. It's like a little re-birth. Both of those yarns are gorgeous, and the alpaca will make a lovely finished object, once it finds its true calling.

  25. Knitting is a hobby -- not getting serum to the troops! Rip it, baby, and don't look back! It will be MUCH nicer in the KSH ;)!

  26. Better that you realized now and not after the last stitch!

I'm a firm believer in ripping what's not working for you. Continuing to knit something you're not enjoying turns a fun hobby into drudgery.

  27. I had my eye on that pattern too and was thinking of making it with the Brooks Farm primero (mohair) from my stash...hmmm. I'm sure you'll love it in the KSH.

  28. I like the KSH MUCH better - I prefer the more subtle blue for this pattern. The fact that I'm horriblly allergic to alpaca has no bearing on my opinion :)

  29. I am still a KSH virgin, (none of the LYS here carry it) but I have my eye on the "Loden Mist" cardigan.

My gosh, that blue is ever so stunning! I'm totally into all shades of blues lately, and this one is exceptionally beautiful!
